Letter from Bubbah -
Dear Alumni Group, December 2009
It was fantastic to see so many of you at our summer birthday reunion! It was great telling and listening to some excellent camp adventures! I heard many positive comments in regards to the progress that camp has made. All of the new buildings are wonderful. They have heat, doors that secure and foundations to support them. The new solar system has served camp well and is a big step in our efforts to become a "green" camp. Along with the new construction, many board members are making an assertive effort to maintain some of the old!
As you may well be aware, Storybook Hall has been boarded up for several years, as it has not met current expectations with building codes. The charming fireplace with the tiny imprints of the hands of campers from the days before the camp was purchased by the founding fathers, are locked up inside the condemned building. The chimney is now deteriorating with pieces of stone and concrete breaking off and falling to the ground.
Storybook hall is the last original building on the property. As you remember your charitable organizations during the holiday season, please think about donating to the Storybook Hall reconstruction account. Board Member Steve Thomson has designed an amazing building that would retain some of the charm, character and design of the original building while still be useful as a gathering place for our current campers.
Please support GCC by donating to the Storybook Hall Project. As an alumni group, let’s support this project! If you would like to support the Storybook Hall Project, please call the office at 503.968.2267.

Alumni Garden Party May 2nd 10:00am to 2:00pm |
Put on your garden friendly clothes and come out to camp for a garden work party. Bring a sack or picnic lunch. Camp will provide snacks and drinks. We will be planting plants in the camp garden.
Danny’s garden was first installed in the spring of 2006 under the direction of our wonderful former dietician, Rhubarb and her friend Jay. Rhubarb, along with support of the Camp foundation installed the garden as a memorial to Danny Edwards. Danny was a camp kid (affectionately referred to as a “Camp Rat”) that grew up at camp from 1990 to 2001. He loved camp and looked forward to summers spent there with his family. Danny died in an automobile accident October 11, 2005. The garden was dedicated as “Danny’s Garden” in 2006.
The garden has several raised beds that were constructed using wood recycled from old camp buildings. It is interesting to see the names inscribed on these old boards (If they could talk, what tales they would tell). The soil has been amended and a strong deer fence surrounds the garden. The garden has been planted with vegetables and fruits that have been served at camp for the past three years.
Each year Rhubarb and her volunteer work party have returned to camp making sure the beds are rotated properly and the seeds are planted. This year we are taking on the task of planting the garden. This has been an especially cold spring with snow still on the ground in the foothills around camp. We plan to plant good sized plants so the there will be some crops ready to serve the staff and campers this summer.
If you would like to get dirty and give back to camp, please come to a Special Alumni Work Party on May 2nd. We hope to wrap up the planting no later than 2:00. It would be great to see some friendly faces.
