T r a n s i t i o n s P r o g r a m
Because of the success of Gales Creek Camp, the Gales Creek Camp Board has an interest in a program that extends camping benefits to the transition time from older campers to young adults. The already heightened demands of living with diabetes intensify further for adolescents [and parents] when teens end high school and move to college or to other challenges. As most teens are exploring autonomy their parents naturally alter their supervisory roles; however teens and parents of teens with diabetes are faced with more rather than less issues. Thus, we believe a program directly identifying and facing transitional challenges will promote personal resilience and instrumental coping skills for older teens with diabetes.
