Our Values

Campers, families, volunteers, staff, supporters, and friends,

Like all of you we are deeply saddened by the senseless deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless other victims of racist violence. While these are high-profile examples, it shouldn’t take headlines or protests to remind us of the ongoing inequities that exist in our society and the daily discrimination faced by African Americans and people of color.

One of our Values at Gales Creek Camp is to provide a safe place for campers and staff of all backgrounds. To fully realize that value we know we have more work to do, and are committed to pursuing ways to improve. As part of that commitment we are pursuing an external training program in order to equip GCC with the awareness and tools to better confront racism and make us a more inclusive and welcoming environment. It’s one step among many we are taking in order to better live up to our ideals.

In addition, we are here to listen and are hoping to hear from you, the GCC community. We commit to staying engaged and hope we can count on you to be leaders and advocates with us on this journey.

We want to let our Black community members know that we stand beside you. Black lives matter.
